Our company specializes in providing comprehensive services for cooling tower cleaning, refurbishment, and maintenance. We are equipped with the necessary tools, extensive experience, and credible references to support our operations in Hungary and the surrounding countries:

  • Cooling tower sales: design, dismantling of the old system, transportation, installation, and commissioning.
  • Mechanical and chemical cleaning of cooling towers
  • Maintenance, refurbishment, and preservation of cooling towers
  • Manufacturing of cooling tower fill media and inserts, including custom sizes
  • Replacement and installation of fill media and inserts

Wet cooling towers utilize the heat absorption capacity of water evaporation to efficiently dissipate thermal energy. By evaporating water and enhancing this process with airflow, significantly more heat can be removed from a given heat exchange surface area compared to dry (air-based) cooling systems.

Consequences of neglected or improperly maintained cooling towers:

As water evaporates, dissolved minerals—and in the case of recycled water, additional contaminants—remain and deposit on the internal surfaces of the cooling tower, particularly on the fill media and inserts. These deposits typically consist of scale and minerals such as manganese, iron, and magnesium.

Corrosion (commonly rust, formed from iron oxide and hydroxide) naturally occurs due to the reaction between oxygen and water on steel components. This process can be significantly slowed through the use of protective coatings and professional preservation techniques that maintain the tower’s structural integrity.

Mineral deposits have very low thermal conductivity, leading to a substantial decrease in cooling efficiency. As performance drops, operating costs increase exponentially.

Inadequate cleaning also fosters an environment conducive to microbial growth. Water temperature, pH, nutrient levels, and the presence of dissolved oxygen and CO₂ all contribute to the rapid proliferation of microorganisms. The moist environment in the fill media provides ideal conditions for biofilm formation and the growth of Legionella bacteria.

Environmental contamination—such as organic debris (leaves, branches, airborne waste)—can clog the fill media, obstructing airflow and water distribution. For counterflow cooling towers, we recommend the Penta Grid 65 debris filter panel, which not only captures debris but also shades the water, protecting it from UV exposure and helping to prevent algal growth.

Regulations and legal requirements for cooling tower cleaning and maintenance:

In Hungary, Regulation 49/2015. (XI.6.) issued by the Ministry of Human Capacities (EMMI) mandates regular maintenance and monitoring of wet cooling towers. This includes both online and offline cleaning, along with continuous and professional preservation or refurbishment—services in which our company has extensive experience and well-documented references.

Annex 2 of the EMMI 49/2015 (XI.6.) regulation defines risk management thresholds and the corresponding prescribed actions for cooling tower operations.
